New Donnelly Connection

I was Googling Donnelly and ran across an item on a French website dedicated to the early French presence in China and with particular reference to the gun boats on the Yangtze .

In the documents section is a Menu page which has a colour illustration signed by Donnelly which evidently was designed for use on a cruise through the Three Gorges . Also there is a copy of the cover of Cornell Plant's book - Glimpses of the Yangtze with Donnelly's cover illustration - he did illustrations through out the book.

Through my blog I was introduced to Thomas Hoppe whose website has what is likely a unique collection of technical detail on numerous types of Chinese junks . He has included at least one of Donnelly's pictures in one of the pieces on the website .
